FAQ
Have a question? Please contact me. I will do my best to answer all emails and if I receive several similar questions I’ll post an answer here.
Do you sell prints of your artwork?
Many of my works are available as Giclee prints. If you are interested in purchasing prints of any of my drawings or paintings please contact me and I will send you the link to the site I use to reproduce my artwork. I earn only a small commission on any prints sold to make them as affordable as possible. I do not offer prints through this site.
Do you offer drawing or painting workshops?
Currently I do not offer any workshops or classes, but I am happy to offer critiques and suggestions to anyone who is learning to draw or paint. Just email me a photo or scanned image of your artwork. I do my best to reply to all email inquiries.
Do you prefer to work from life or photos?
I usually work from photos for portraits and it allows me the time to closely scrutinize details that working from life does not permit. Some artists claim only working from life lets the character and glow of the individual come through in the final work. I disagree. However, I am limited to what I see in the photo. As for other subjects, I often work from several photos compiled into the composition, or sketch out compositions from life and use detailed photos to complete the picture. I recommend to aspiring artists to sketch from life whenever possible.
How did you learn to draw/paint?
I am almost entirely self-taught, and I am always learning through trial and error.
What materials do you use?
Please see the materials page under tutorials. I list all the materials I have come to use and why I use them.
Do you give any work away?
Yes and no. I can’t offer any of my work or commissions for free, but for worthwhile charity auctions I have occasionally donated both commission gift certificates and original works.
Who are your influences?
This is a difficult question. I can’t say I have definite influences in the traditional sense. I am fiercely independent and I work from my own preferences. However, I am awed easily by all talented artists, and I draw inspiration from the artist’s work I last saw. Anyone whose work elicits an emotional response from me is an influence as that is what I hope to attain with my art.
What is your favorite subject to draw or paint?
I really enjoy drawing and painting animals and portraits. However, I enjoy the forms and challenges in all sorts of subjects.
How long have you been a professional artist?
I began earning a living in flameworked glass in 1999. I did not begin selling two dimensional artwork or taking commissions until 2009.
